Well, it’s that time of the year when we reflect on the past year and look forward to the new year ahead. Did you all achieve your goals this year? Maybe, you didn’t set yourself any this year, I certainly didn’t. For me 2010 was a year of change. I closed down my candle making business, Cosy Candles & Aromas, much to many people’s dismay, but I felt it had run its course.

It was the year I rediscovered my love of knitting, after an 11 year absence. I also finally taught myself how to crochet after nearly 40 years of trying :D   I also started my moleymakes blog back in July. Hmmm, I guess I did achieve something after all.

I’ll leave you with a collage of my yarny achievements for 2010.

Happy New Year to everybody

Wishing you all health, wealth and happiness for 2011

Hi there. Is everybody nearly ready for the BIG Day tomorrow??? Well, we are, almost. All the pressies are wrapped, all the food shopping is done. House is clean and I’m just waiting for the oven cleaning fluid to finish doing it’s work then once that’s been rinsed off it’s all ready. I will then have a lovely hot soak in the bath and settle down n the settee with a glass of something ;)

So this is my last post before Crimbo. Thank you all for your wonderful comments over the last few months. I’ve enjoyed sharing my little woolly accomplishments with you all. I hope that you all have a wonderful Christmas and for anybody who may be reading this who doesn’t celebrate, I hope you enjoy the time off with friends and family. And I’ll leave you with my favourite Christmas poem.

MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!!

‘Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house

Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse;

The stockings were hung by the chimney with care,

In hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there;

The children were nestled all snug in their beds,

While visions of sugar-plums danced in their heads;

And mamma in her ‘kerchief, and I in my cap,

Had just settled down for a long winter’s nap,

When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter,

I sprang from the bed to see what was the matter.

Away to the window I flew like a flash,

Tore open the shutters and threw up the sash.

The moon on the breast of the new-fallen snow

Gave the lustre of mid-day to objects below,

When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,

But a miniature sleigh, and eight tiny reindeer,

With a little old driver, so lively and quick,

I knew in a moment it must be St. Nick.

More rapid than eagles his coursers they came,

And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name;

“Now, Dasher! now, Dancer! now, Prancer and Vixen!

On, Comet! on Cupid! on, Donder and Blitzen!

To the top of the porch! to the top of the wall!

Now dash away! dash away! dash away all!”

As dry leaves that before the wild hurricane fly,

When they meet with an obstacle, mount to the sky,

So up to the house-top the coursers they flew,

With the sleigh full of toys, and St. Nicholas too.

And then, in a twinkling, I heard on the roof

The prancing and pawing of each little hoof.

As I drew in my head, and was turning around,

Down the chimney St. Nicholas came with a bound.

He was dressed all in fur, from his head to his foot,

And his clothes were all tarnished with ashes and soot;

A bundle of toys he had flung on his back,

And he looked like a peddler just opening his pack.

His eyes — how they twinkled! his dimples how merry!

His cheeks were like roses, his nose like a cherry!

His droll little mouth was drawn up like a bow,

And the beard of his chin was as white as the snow;

The stump of a pipe he held tight in his teeth,

And the smoke it encircled his head like a wreath;

He had a broad face and a little round belly,

That shook, when he laughed like a bowlful of jelly.

He was chubby and plump, a right jolly old elf,

And I laughed when I saw him, in spite of myself;

A wink of his eye and a twist of his head,

Soon gave me to know I had nothing to dread;

He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work,

And filled all the stockings; then turned with a jerk,

And laying his finger aside of his nose,

And giving a nod, up the chimney he rose;

He sprang to his sleigh, to his team gave a whistle,

And away they all flew like the down of a thistle.

But I heard him exclaim, ere he drove out of sight,

“Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good-night.”

Hello everybody. Gosh, it’s now only 6 more sleeps till Santa. Are you all ready? Are you ;) We’re never really ready until the last minute. Our tree went up only a couple of days ago. We don’t have a real tree, we’ve always had artificial. I know there’s plenty out there who think they’re a bit tacky looking, but a lot nowadays are quite realistic looking in terms of shape. Anyway, here’s a picture of ours, such as it is.

Christmas Tree

Most of the tree ornaments are still the original ones that hubby and I bought on our very first Christmas way back in 1988. We don’t bother with hanging decorations anymore. We used to when the children were little, in fact, we would decorate the whole house. Now, we just have the tree, some festive ornaments and our villages.

We have an oriel window in our living room and every year hubby makes a lovely snowy scene with some festive villages. Here are 3 close ups of our window.

I found a panoramic function on my camera and took 3 separate shots.

It’s not a perfect shot but it give you some sort of idea of how it looks all together. Oh and yes, that is real snow outside. After being snow free for a week, we had a nice dumping of the white stuff yesterday lunchtime. It certainly seems that this winter may be as bad as last year’s. Well, it’s about time we started having some proper seasons here in the UK. Rather than the usual mild, wet and miserable thing all year round.

So all that’s left to get is our food shopping which we tend to do on Christmas Eve. Yeah, I know it’s late, but we only have a very small freezer so we can’t stock up in advance. We do have a large fridge, however, so that accomodates all our lovely fresh food goodies.

Right then, I’m off to do some last minute Xmas card writing. I’m so far behind this year with everything, not too sure whether it’s ‘cos I’ve still got the lurgy or just a feeling of general apathy about it all this year. Meh!
